Who Has The Best Pizza In Torrington CT? We Built A Tool To Find Out.
The top contenders for best known pizza in Torrington
Pizza in Torrington CT is not a simple question. This city has almost as many pizza options per square mile as New Haven, and New Haven is considered the pizza capital of the world. If you have lived here long enough, you already know that Torrington takes its pizza seriously. But with that many options, the real question becomes harder to answer: who actually has the best specialty pizzas in Torrington?
We think the answer might be sitting right next to each other on Main Street.
Sasso's Coal Fired Pizza — 52 Main Street
Sasso's is one of the most unique pizza experiences in Northwest Connecticut. Coal fired pizza operates at temperatures that a conventional oven simply cannot reach, and the result is a crust with a char, a snap, and a depth of flavor that is genuinely different from anything else in the city. The outdoor seating fills up fast on weekend nights. There is sometimes a wait. That does not happen at a place that is doing anything less than something special.
Pizzeria Marzano — 1315 East Main Street
The story behind Pizzeria Marzano is worth knowing before you order. Owner John was backpacking through Europe in college, ran low on funds, and walked into a pizzeria looking for work. They gave him the opportunity. He spent that time learning authentic techniques from the people who had been doing it for generations, brought that knowledge back to Torrington, and opened Marzano's. Every ingredient is imported from Italy. The wood fired oven does things to a crust that a conventional oven cannot replicate.
Two different styles. Two different origin stories. Both making a serious case for the best specialty pizza in the city.
Sasso’s Coal Fired Pizza is located right next to the Warner Theater in downtown Torrington. Sasso’s may be the best known pizzeria in Downtown
Marzano’s offers authentic Eurpean inspired style pizza and even offers a Grandma’s Pie, similar to the Sicilian
But the competition does not stop there.
Torrington has a full slate of pizzerias, each with something genuinely worth trying.
Stella's Restaurant and Pizzeria — 152 East Main Street is a family operation run by Chef Tony, open since 2020 and earning a loyal following with a gourmet pie lineup that includes a Greek pizza with sausage, onions, and feta, a four cheese white pie, a spinach and gorgonzola option, and a BBQ chicken with bacon.
North End Two Guys Pizza — 551 Main Street has been a neighborhood anchor on the north end for years, using 100 percent Grande cheese on every pie and offering both red and white gourmet pizza varieties alongside a menu that runs from pizza to seafood specialties to charcoal burgers. Their Facebook page describes it plainly: Greek and New York style pizza. That combination is harder to find than it sounds.
Joe's Pizza and Wings — 109 South Main Street is the kind of place locals come back to week after week. Fresh dough daily, bone-in wings in 19 flavors, and specialty pies that go well beyond the basics — the Jamaican Jerk and the Baked Potato pizza are two of the more talked-about options on the menu.
