We Opened a Cafe: Introducing Turner Tap and Cafe in Torrington, CT
After years of consulting for restaurants, building cocktail programs, training staff, and advising owners on how to run stronger operations, we did the thing. We opened our own place.
Turner Tap and Cafe is a weekends only coffee, cocktails, and beer spot at 100 Lawton Street in Torrington, Connecticut. It is exactly the kind of place we have been helping other people build for years. Small. Intentional. No filler.
Why We Did It
Every consultant eventually faces the same question: would you actually do this yourself?
The answer is yes. And the reason is simple. We believe everything we tell our clients. We believe a focused menu outperforms a bloated one. We believe a strong beverage program drives the margins that keep a restaurant alive. We believe the guest experience starts the second someone walks through the door and ends after they leave. We wanted to prove it.
Turner Tap and Cafe is that proof.
What Turner Tap and Cafe Actually Is
It is a corner table kind of place. Coffee in the morning, cocktails and beer later in the day. The music stays low. The coffee stays hot. Foxon Park in the cooler. Local beer on the board.
Our espresso is pulled by hand on a traditional lever machine by Coffeeology Street Cafe. No buttons, no shortcuts. Just the barista and the brew.
Our beer comes from Norbrook Farm Brewery in Colebrook, CT. A craft brewery on a working farm with mountain bike trails, disc golf, and some of the best beer in Litchfield County.
The cocktail menu is tight. An Irish Coffee, a Mochachino, a Coffeetini, a Sapphire Sour, a Tequila Sunrise, spiked lemonades, and wine by the glass. Every drink is costed, priced for margin, and built to be executed consistently. Exactly the way we teach our clients to do it.
The kitchen is coming soon.
What This Means for Our Clients
Nothing changes for the restaurants and bars we work with. If anything, owning a place makes us better at what we do. Every recommendation we give now gets tested in our own operation first. When we tell a client to tighten their cocktail program, restructure their pricing, or retrain their staff, we are doing the same thing at Turner.
We are not just consultants who talk about how restaurants should run. We are operators who run one.
